Your
computer has accumulated junk from regular use or your disk is
fragmented. Windows has to split files into smaller pieces
for storage but instead of keeping the pieces close
together, they are spread all over the hard drive. Install
Ccleaner
and run it to remove the useless junk that Windows likes to
collect, then defragment your drive.
You
have a lot of unnecessary programs running like utilities for
printers and cameras that you no longer use or updaters for old
computers that the manufacturer no longer supports. Uninstall any
old utilities that you no longer use and use the “Startup”
feature in Ccleaner
to prevent unnecessary programs from starting.
Your
file system could be corrupted. This means that Windows has been
putting things in the wrong place and it is causing slowdowns.
Run chkdsk
to correct errors.
You
(or your kids) are running a file sharing or P2P program like
Limewire, Kazaa or BearShare (there are many).
These
programs allow you to download music and videos from other
computers on the internet. These programs run all the time
to allow other people to download files from your computer
and really slow down your computer. They also allows
strangers on the Internet to see all of your confidential files
and you can download viruses without knowing it.
